Davis Instruments Whaletail XL
I ordered this to go on a small 16ft aluminum catamaran with a 50 hp Honda outboard. Single engine catamarans are notorious for cavitation and ventilation problems. Mine was ventilating just a small amount when trimmed up, so I ordered and installed this. I have not been able to water test, so this review is only based on the quality and first impressions of the Whaletail. I have another boat that benefits greatly from a hydrofoil. It is a front heavy cuddy cabin and the problem was porpoising. I installed a Stingray hydrofoil and it corrected it as well as making the boat plane out quicker. The Davis Whaletail is a very well made hydrofoil and matches the Honda color very well. The thickness is a solid 1/4" and has a nice matte gold color finish. Very easy installation with hardware included. Farley Outdoors shipped this super fast (free) and it was well packaged. I will not hesitate to order from them again. I can highly recommend the Davis Whaletail hydrofoil and Farley Outdoors.

I've a 50 Merc 4 stroke that weighs an extra 90 pounds compared to the 2 stroke. On my 16' Tracker that's considerable. The Davis Whale Tail did as hoped but I needed to make modifications. The underside of my motor's cavitation plate is not flat but the top side is. The Whale Tail didn't fit to my liking so I sawed away the forward inside portion 15 degrees and redrilled it. That allowed to tail to move forward. On the lake the boat responded quickly to plane and I gained about 2 mph. I have no tack or trim gauge so I can't comment there. Overall I am happy with the Whale Tail.

Great product and will be a good addition to my boat. It took longer than I thought to be delivered maybe due to C-19. My invitation to review it came several days before the actual product..
